Ok, here it is: These are the TOP FIVE reasons your business will fail in 2013!

 

1.   Finding new customers is getting harder for two reasons;

a) The economy is not getting better so there’s less discretionary income to spend..
b) There’s a ton of marketing messages and that means a lot of noise to compete with.

 ANSWER? GET better at the SEVEN MUSTS of Marketing

i. Advertising  (today u can do online marketing with virtually no budget at all.) There are four MUST HAVES IN ALL ADVERTISING that are to lengthy to go into here but contact me directly if you’d like to hear them.

ii. DIRECT MAIL to existing customer is a MUST today. Even if it’s an email drip campaign. Off them education and relationship. Stay in front of their thinking about what you do at all times..

iii. Corporate Promotional pieces. THEY NEED TO scream education. They need to show the pain of the problem you solve and then how much it will HURT if they don’t solve them with you. OR someone!

iv. PR: Look write some press releases, develop relationships with media, join some organizations with the movers and shakers in your business. Lever all of what you do online.

v. PERSONAL CONTACT:

  1. You can advertise, write PR, make a great promotional piece, do a video like this but it’s all about ONE ON ONE contact at the end of the day. That’s my sweet spot so I could go on for hours here; In fact right behind ONE ON ONE contact, this is your MOST POWERFUL TOOL. But let me share just a the most vital points you have to know to be successful in the new year with online marketing;

  1. MORE THAN 70% of Americans access the internet on the internet of their smart phones DAILY. If your online strategy is still thinking PC, your online strategy sucks!
  2. 2012 set another new record, smart phones and tablets are outselling PC’s by ever increasing margins. What’s your new transition strategy for how people find you?
  3. For the first time ever, 50% of your SEO factor is about how your web site is structured. it’s called ON-SITE SEO, if you don’t know it, your online marketing is dust now.
  4. Tons of online marketing experts are out of business now. I’m talking some of the biggest names in the business because they were just plain wrong. Find someone that can show you top search engines results and GREAT marketing copy and HIRE THEM or DO WHAT THEY DO!

 2.   Businesses are so hungry for just any customer, they’re taking the wrong ones

a.   Don’t just get new customers,
b.   GET YOUR BEST BUYERS

  • Have you made a list of your best customers that you should be targeting?
    My BIGGEST business mistake in business development consulting is settling for bad customers.
  • Let me explain. I am constantly coming into contact with business owners who were good at, let’s say, cutting hair, or plumbing, or computer repair or whatever. SO, they opened a business. Now just because you’re good at computer repair, or hair cutting, DOES NOT mean you’re good the business of Hair cutting, or computer repair. THAT IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SKILL!
  • So for me to get through to a business owner WHO ALL THINK they know more than anyone about hair cutting, widget making, or computer repair, I HAVE TO KNOW, THAT THEY  KNOW, that running and growing a business is way different than knowing how to cut hair.
  • MY BEST CUSTOMERS HAVE TO BE READY TO ADMIT THEY DON’T HAVE all the answers and are ready for REAL business growth counsel.
  • MY BEST CUSTOMERS have to be ready to THINK DIFFERENTLY!
  • My BEST CUSTOMERS HAVE TO KNOW THAT it will TAKE DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY and depending on the CIRCUMSTANCE, it will take differently amounts of time to experience REAL RESULTS. SOME MIGHT BE RIGHT AWAY, SOME MAKE TAKE 2 or 3 QUARTERS!
  • MY BEST CUSTOMER AND I NEED TO HAVE CHEMISTRY. Great chemistry and mutual respect.  what does that mean? I’m never going to cut hair like you and you’re never going to grow businesses like me.
  • MY BEST CUSTOMERS better be ready to roll up their sleeves and go to work with me because I’m all in when you retain me. I love watching Robert Irvine in Restaurant impossible. He takes restaurants on the verge of bankruptcy and turns them into successful enterprises. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT, HIS CUSTOMERS ARE READY TO LEARN, ROLL OF THEIR SLEEVES AND LISTEN TO HIM. If not, he walks away. Are you willing to walk away from customers who ARE NOT READY for you offering or product. They can BE HUGE ENERGY & TIME WASTERS.
  • ANYTHING LESS than that ends up a waste of time for me in business consulting. Forgive me for saying this but I’ve settled in the past for total fools as customers. THEY ALL have the same problems 3 years after I left that I solve with my BEST CUSTOMERS IN 3 months OR THREE WEEKS!

Businesses are NOT measuring things.

Look, I’m not crazy about this one either but let me tall you a little secret. Successful people and failures hate the same things for the most part. But successful people do them anyway. START MEASURING THINGS

 

  1. How many leads are coming in every day, week or month?
  2. Where are they coming from?
  3. Are you measuring the use of your time? Time Mgt. We all have 168 hours a week to waste or invest. If you don’t measure your time, you waste it.
  4. What’s your most profitable products and services?
  5. What’s your conversion rates?
  6. What’s your average revenue per customer right now?
  7. What’s your REAL CASH FLOW STATEMENT LOOK LIKE ON A DAILY BASIS

 

#4 reason many will fail this year is people in businesses today do not seek out good mentors. But why?

Generally speaking, we can’t see our own stuff. That why every professional sporting event has the best coaches money can buy. Are you feeding your mind with the best advice you can get?

As we get older, we tend to resist Education. People that mentor us educate us. Find out how a mentors sweet spot can INCREASE your sweet spot. Look the NUMBER ONE REASON people fail in life is because they’re not willing to UP THE QUALITY OF their skill. GET IN THE GAME FOR REAL. Sharpen your saw as you cut your wood and you’ll cut more wood.

#5 Sales Training: A ton of business fail because they lack sales training and let’s be honest, everything is sales. Whether you get that or not, it’s like gravity, it doesn’t matter if you believe it. it’s going to affect your life.

  1. Look, this is really simple, if you have a cash flow problem today, you didn’t make a sale yesterday, if you didn’t have a prospect yesterday to sell to, you didn’t have good marketing the day before.
